CD Release Party to Benefit the Rocky Mountain Alzheimer’s Association
A Night of Music for Memory
Colorado Springs, Colo.- Local songwriter and musician, Laura Wilson, will debut her first CD, "Kicking the Tires" at a benefit for the Rocky Mountain Alzheimer’s Association. The event, which will include a live performance and silent auction, will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Bemis Hall at Colorado College on August 4, 2007.
Ms. Wilson, who resides in Woodland Park, has collaborated with another local resident, Priscilla "CB" Eagye, her lyricist, to create a distinctive album of original music. A gentle blend of rock, country and alternative styles, the album features Ms. Wilson’s accomplished vocals and songwriting style.
Raising funds for Alzheimer Research is a charity close to both Ms. Wilson’s and Ms. Eagye’s hearts. Both lost their fathers prematurely, due to progressive diseases that involved memory loss. In addition, Ms. Wilson has worked for the past 17 years with the Alzheimer’s and senior populations providing music and pet therapy. Known for her energetic and sometimes unconventional methods to motivate her clients, Ms. Wilson has found that a connection through music can often be made when words and comprehension fail.
"The release of my CD seemed to fit perfectly with the concept of a benefit for the Alzheimer’s Association," noted Ms. Wilson. "My work professionally and creatively has always revolved around my concern and connection with the senior population." One of the songs featured on the 10-track CD is titled "Thick and Thin" and specifically deals with the joys and sorrows in remembering a loved one who is now wasting away.
Ms. Wilson received her bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from Colorado State University. Both Ms. Wilson and Ms. Eagye are graduates of Cheyenne Mountain High School. Ms. Wilson has performed locally, and has also toured nationally with other several rock and country bands.
